A lineup of legendary New Orleans musicians is taking the stage in support of Mitch Landrieu’s candidacy for Mayor of New Orleans. Musician’s For Mitch, February 3, 2010 at House of Blues, will feature more than 30 New Orleans performing artists. The all-star lineup includes Allen Toussaint, Branford Marsalis, Irma Thomas, Pete Fountain, Terence Blanchard, Deacon John, Ellis Marsalis and Kermit Ruffins.

“So much of the music community is for Mitch because he is for the music community,” said Quint Davis, CEO of Festival Productions, Inc.-New Orleans, which helped organize Musicians For Mitch. “No political figure has demonstrated a deeper understanding of the need for government to support the business of our unique culture or of the impact the New Orleans and Louisiana music industry has on economic development than Mitch Landrieu.”

Three-time Grammy Award Winner Terence Blanchard said, "I think that it is a crucial time in our city's history, where we need to focus on the most qualified person for the job. We need to put aside political party preferences and do what is best for our city. Having witnessed Mitch Landrieu's experience in dealing with bringing people together, I feel that it is important to be a part of Musicians For Mitch.”

New Orleans music legend Pete Fountain said, “I’m thrilled that Mitch is running for Mayor. He has always been a strong and enthusiastic supporter of New Orleans artists and music industry. Thank you Mitch.”

And Irma Thomas, the Soul Queen of New Orleans, said of Mitch, “He'll make a good mayor.”

Mitch Landrieu understands that our culture is the heart and soul of New Orleans. He recognizes the importance of funding musicians and other artists. As part of Mitch’s creative and entrepreneurial style of governing, he launched the Cultural Economy Initiative. This initiative created more than 140,000 jobs through Louisiana's unique culture – our food, music, arts, film and architecture. Through this initiative, Landrieu pushed an aggressive legislative agenda, passing landmark legislation to put music and the arts in every Louisiana public school, as well as tax policy legislation to incent local municipalities to create cultural districts.

Musicians For Mitch will take place on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at House of Blues. A VIP Patron Party begins at 6:30 p.m., with the main concert to follow at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be reserved at www.MitchForMayor.com/Musicians.
